Yes, I am doing Nano again. I wouldn't dare skip this year, because this will be year 10! (Not including 2004, where I quit a few days in and never signed up officially.)
This year, I'm once again taking on multiple projects. But the main one and the one I intend to do 50k or more on is Snow on Chocolate.
This is a retelling of Snow White. Snow White is one of my favorite fairy tales, along with Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel--which I also have rewrite ideas of (and my Nano in '07 was a Sleeping Beauty tweak). I had lots of feels as a kid on Snow White, and was even maligned for wanting to write a black Snow White
as a child.
In Milwaukee last November, I got the idea in the shower, and I've been holding on to it and poking at it, and now I'm ready to give it Nano Focus. (Nano no longer insists that you're a Rebel if you're working on something you've started before 12 am Nov 1st, no matter what whining some people make of it. They strongly encourage, but at this point I've won 9 times, I think I've proven I can do this.)
My MC is a young black girl named Eboness King. She has vitiligo, and when she was a child her mother was brutally murdered. When her father remarries, Eboness does not like her stepmother one bit and the feeling is mutual for multiple reasons, most of which is that Queen King is a terrible human being.
As for the Seven D? They're a blended family where their late mothers decided, after the first two were born and accidentally named with matching D names, to theme name their children. There's Damita-jo (30), Denise (30), Darnell (25) and Deion (24), DeWanye (16), Day-Marie (15), and DeRoy (8). Deion is married into the family; Darnell is gay and Deion is his boyfriend.
The story is told from four viewpoints:
Eboness King, our MC.
Eboness's stepmother Queen King; any part of her story is solely through diary entries.
DeWayne Jefferson, our Guy
Day-Marie Washington, DeWayne's Cousin and best friend, who's got Magic.
As for the extra stories? I'll be working on my other AG Original books: Meet Charlotte: an American Girl
, Edith Takes a Stand: A School Story
, and Kimmy's Math Problems: A School Story.
Even with BeForever, I want to run the stories up like this. I'm posting Meet Edith
Onward to Nano!
I am getting further and further with the Cousins. They're almost ready to go to their new homes--I'm hoping to send out several this weekend.
Don't start playing the Kittens Game
. I'm now farming for science after unlocking mad titanium, and it's been 1110 years or so.
I plan to take pics of my Snow White Pullip later. She's beautiful. I will have to get her new clothes to wear. Barbie ones. I think she's too big for Ever After High.
Soon, Pokemon ORAS. Soon.
